Cares for Kids
Pivot Point Cares for KidsTM is approaching the $1,000,000 mark as it prepares for its fourth annual Nationwide Cut-A-Thon fundraiser on May 19. Pivot Point works with schools and salons throughout the United States in its annual fundraising efforts for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC). For several years, Pivot Point has been a proud supporter of NCMEC, raising over $900,000 since the fundraiser began in 2006.
In addition to raising money for NCMEC, Pivot Point will, once again, partner with the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) and its Cut-It-Out program to assist their efforts in ending domestic violence. Through this partnership, Pivot Point Academies throughout the Chicago area will sell Cut-a-Thon Certificates, which will be donated to local shelters for their residents to redeem for services at the Academies throughout the coming year. All money raised through the sale of these certificates will be donated to NCMEC.
Since 1984 NCMEC has assisted law enforcement in the recovery of more than 148,400 missing children and the organization's CyberTipline has handled more than 816,800 reports of child sexual exploitation. NCMEC has also been instrumental in teaching families about child safety through a variety of programs. Still, research tells us that there is more to be done to make children safer. The U.S. Department of Justice found that an average of 2,185 children are reported missing each day and research has found that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized before adulthood. Plus, research indicates that one in seven youths (10 to 17 years old) have received a sexual solicitation or approach over the Internet. The potential risks that children face make NCMEC's work more important than ever.
